Epithets

Outdoors Enthusiast

I love being outdoors! All growing up my family would constantly be doing activities outside. My love for being outside was further driven when I began participating in sports that were generally performed outdoors. More recently, I have spent a lot of time going to National Parks. My favorite hike so far has been the Narrows in Zions National Park.

Adventure Addict

Every chance I get I am going on a little adventure. I go to all kinds of places and try new things as often as I can. I began planning adventures every week freshman year. I found my college classes to be pretty stressful and found that a good break was having a change of scenery and trying new things. This stress release has followed me the past three years. Some of my more recent adventures include: trying authentic Korean food at Sam Hawk, biking down the canyon, having a picnic at Bridal Veil Falls, and hiking the Y.

 Lover of Music

I have found as long as I have been alive, that I have been surrounded by music. I was fortunate in that my parents raised my siblings and me in a very musical home. I have played the cello for 10+ years and still try to play as much as I can. I participate in one of BYU's Orchestra's and am planning on playing in the pit orchestra for the Spring Opera. I love all kinds of music and am always eager to learn new styles and genres.

 PhD Bound

As an accounting student at BYU, I have found that jobs are not in short supply and firms love BYU students. This is an incredible opportunity and makes it much easier getting a good job. The further I explored potential employment as an accountant the more I realized that I didn't like the life and career path. Due to this reaction, I began searching for other opportunities. That was when I began researching the life of a professor. I found myself getting excited about this career. I don't know yet if it will be the end goal for me but I do know that my pursuit of this degree is a major part of my life currently.

  1. I love all of your epithets and am inspired to go on weekly adventures yours sounded so fun. I feel like im in the same boat as you when it comes to career paths. The more I found out about my original plan the more I realized it wasn't a life I wanted either. Im still not 100% sure what I will end up doing but I have also been juggling the idea of becoming a professor. I hope that whatever you end up doing you love!

  2. I agree with school being stressful and needing to get a break! And trying new things is a great way to do it! If you like biking at all there is a short fun downhill bike course at slate canyon park you should check out. Its pretty close to campus and a good quick adventure!

  3. Hi Jennifer! I was also raised in a very musical home and I have been playing viola for a long time too! And I also used to play in one of BYU’s orchestras and had so much fun! But I stopped after one semester of doing it because of the time commitment haha. Also I think it’s so awesome that you’re considering being a Professor!

  4. College is tough and having the determination to tackle on several more years of schooling in pursuit of accomplishing your goals is commendable. I personally want to finish as fast as possible so I have a lot of respect for those who pursue graduate degrees. The fact that you love the outdoors probably helps to balance life out and keep it fun.

  5. I love your goal of planning adventures every week. I think a lot of the times, we as students get so caught up in school, church, family, dating, etc. that we forget to take time to plan and DO things for ourselves that we enjoy. It seems like you have a busy major, so props to you for handling everything! Being a teacher really takes someone special. I know for me personally I am horrible at explaining myself and I think it would be really hard for me to be responsible for a bunch of kids learning. Good luck with everything!! :)
